1. What do you think are the important factors that led to the rise of the Shang Dynasty?
Its civilization was based on agriculture, augmented by hunting, and animal husbandry. The Shang had a fully developed system of writing as attested on bronze inscriptions, oracle bones, and a small number of other writings on pottery, jade and other stones.
2. What do you think would have contributed to the downfall of the Shang Dynasty?
Shang Zhou, the last Shang king, committed suicide after his army was defeated by the Zhou people. Legends say that his army betrayed him by joining the Zhou rebels in a decisive battle that took place.
